In general, we encourage all formal educational institutions to teach blue ocean strategy as a module or course within their institution without restrictions. You may refer to our teaching materials listed on our website  www.blueoceanstrategy.comat https://www.blueoceanstrategy.com/teaching-materials/. Here you can find the details of what an educator can and cannot have under Blue Ocean’s and INSEAD’s Educator Policy. These pedagogy materials can be purchased from HBSP and Case Centre, and they are individually copyrighted materials. This means, for example, that if you need one copy of a case study for your 25 students, you will have to purchase 25 copies and you are restricted from making copies on your own.

There are a number of reasons that you may be experiencing payment issues:
  • Foreign transaction disabled

We accept all major debit and credit cards. However, debit cards in some countries might not allow foreign transactions. If you are experiencing trouble making a payment, call your bank to ensure your card is authorized for international purchases.

  • Incomplete / Incorrect Name

Please ensure you are entering the first and last name of the card account holder, exactly as it appears on the card in the Name on Card field. If the name isn’t entered the same way, the purchase may be declined.

  • Too Many Attempts / Card Usage in 24 hours

Some cards have usage limitations, and will automatically block payment attempts after a certain threshold has been reached.  If you’ve used your card a lot in the last 24 hours, try contacting your bank, or waiting until the next day to make a purchase.

  • Cache Issues

If you're sure you're entering the right card number, but you’re seeing a notification it looks invalid, or the pay button isn't showing up, there may be a caching issue. Please clear your cache and try again. For instructions on how to clear your cache, please click here.

Are you still experiencing issues? To protect your security and privacy, your bank may not always disclose to us why a payment method was declined.  Some of the most common reasons for bank declines include insufficient funds, card purchase limitations, card security policies, among other issues.  As we do not have complete visibility on the reason for the decline, you will need to contact your bank or financial institution to solve the payment issue.

No. Any collaborators you invite will only be able to view and work on any projects or tools that they have been invited to. This also applies to the Discussion & Notes. Collaborators will only be able to see discussions for the projects or tools that they have been invited to. If they have not been invited to a project or tool, they will not be able to view either. Please note that collaborators will not be able to create their own projects. If they wish to do so, they must either begin their 1-month free access or subscribe to Blue Ocean Studio™ + 101
Your collaborators can only see each other within your project and within the tools that they have been invited to. They cannot add each other to their own projects.
If a collaborator has a valid subscription or is in the middle of their free access, they will have full access to the whole interactive Studio and all its features and functions. This includes the ability to create their own projects. If a collaborator has not yet subscribed to the Blue Ocean Studio™ or has not yet started their 1-month free access, then they will not be able to create their own projects. They will only be able to see and work on any shared projects they have been specifically invited to.
You may create an unlimited number of projects within your studio.
Within each project, you can create up to 7 instances of each of the six tools and frameworks. If you wish to create more instances, you can change the status of a tool to archive it. Only the project owner can view any archived tools. These archived tools do not count towards the 7 live tool instances, and therefore you can have as many archived tools as possible. Outside of each project, you can create an unlimited number of Pioneer-Migrator-Settler maps. This is due to the fact that the Pioneer-Migrator-Settler map is the first step of the 5-step blue ocean shift process. The map helps to plot your entire portfolio of businesses and offerings so that you can decide on where you see the most viable blue ocean potential.
You can access the Discussions & Notes by clicking the chat bubble icon at the top right-hand corner of your dashboard. This Discussions & Notes feature can be used for your own personal notes during your blue ocean journey. You can also use this feature to have discussions with your collaborators either at the project or individual tool level. All Discussions & Notes will be saved automatically and you will be able to review and access them at any time during your subscription.
You can download your projects as a pdf file by clicking on the project tile and then clicking “Export to PDF”. Please note that within a project pdf, only the published tools within the project will be downloaded. You can also download each tool as a pdf in a similar way. Simply click on the dropdown menu within each tool tile and click on “Export to PDF”.
To download a project or tool, you can click on the project or tool’s drop down menu and click on “Download Project” or "Download Tool". This will download a native file to your desktop which you can import back into any project within your studio. Please note that exporting a tool will download a native .json file which can only be used within the studio.

Whilst the course is designed to empower you to self-direct your learning at your own pace, it is recommended that you spend at least 1 hour of learning a day over 14 days, to work on the course, and to spend ample time applying the concepts learned within your subscription period, within the interactive workspace by using the tools and frameworks to create your own blue oceans within the duration of your subscription.
The video streaming function is designed to automatically adjust the streaming bitrate according to your internet connection and bandwidth.  However, it requires a dedicated minimal bandwidth of 512 kbps for the videos to load without buffering. The optimal setting is 1 Mbps broadband internet connection for computer and 3G mobile connection for tablets. There may also be other devices that are connected to and sharing your internet or WIFI connection that are using up your bandwidth.  Turn off these devices to dedicate more bandwidth while you are reviewing the course online.
The Blue Ocean 101™ course is designed to maximise your learning in a systematic and progressive manner. You will be guided through the course one module and component at a time. You cannot proceed to the next component without completing the previous one. Within each module, once you have completed a learning resource, you must mark it as “completed”, and you must complete each quiz by getting 100% to proceed to the next module.
The Blue Ocean 101™ course requires you to get 100% for each component before progressing to the next one. Should you fail a quiz, you have unlimited attempts to redo the quiz to pass with 100%. You must get a 100% on all quizzes within a module to unlock the next module. As such, there is no aggregate scoring for the Blue Ocean 101™ course.
Once you have completed all 11 modules within the Blue Ocean 101TM course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion via an email. You can then download the pdf file to your desktop.
The Blue Ocean Studio™ free access includes full use of the features and functions within the creative workspace, the Studio, which comprises of:
  1. The ability to create an unlimited number of projects with an unlimited number of collaborators
  2. The ability to use all six tools and frameworks either individually in any order or in sequence through a guided process
  3. The ability to engage in the Blue Ocean Fair and the Decision and Action
  4. The use of the Discussion and Notes where you can either record you own thoughts and processes if the project is private, or you can use it to communicate and collaborate with your team-members
  5. Access to all the landmarks within the Studio and the tools and frameworks, all of which aim to guide you through the step by step process of each tool and framework
  6. Access to all the learning stops within each landmark which will provide an understanding behind the basic concepts of each step in the process of creating each tool and framework
You will not have access to the online learning Blue Ocean 101™ and will need a valid subscription to access this.
